Revamped Listings Promise Easier Searching

Clover Windlow
Times Editor-in-Chief

On June 28th, the official Lionheart website announced a more comprehensive and visual change to their land listings and business listings. As Estate Owner Dirk Klees says in the posting, “It’s much easier to find something, be it land for sale, or a business you’re looking for, when you can see it on a map where it’s located at, instead of scrolling through a dry list of data.”

The new, map-based search systems seem to be well-liked, based on recent comments, but currently lack a search-by-category (or even a Search at all) present in older listings. Klees says, however, that more new changes will be coming along in the next few days, including an updated category list for businesses.

Business owners are reminded that they can add their own business to the Listings section by way of their rent terminal: Click it and go to “Main Menu” and then “Publish”, then follow the directions.

Lag at SL8B–What you can do about it (via SL8B)

From the SL8B Blog
by Harper Beresford

Lag at SL8B--What you can do about it Note: This is a rewrite of a blog I did for Fashion for Life, an event I ran across 9 sims. The fundamentals of user-side lag issues remain the same. The folks at SL8B asked me to reprint and I rewrote it for this event. The original article can be found at my blog at http://slfashionpassion.wordpress.com. One of the biggest concerns with any event is the issue of lag. Lag is like the US Federal deficit—it seems to be getting worse and worse and … Read More

SL8B Celebrates “Magic of Second Life”

Second Life’s eighth birthday celebration, or SL8B, is this month, and builders from all over the grid are working furiously to get their exhibitions completed in time for the doors to open to the public on June 20th. This year’s theme is “The Magic of Second Life”, and as Courtney Linden says at the Second Life blogs:

No, we’re not just talking about wizards and sorceresses (though of course they’re included). The true magic of Second Life is something different for each of us. It’s all about that moment when we realized how amazing Second Life really is. It’s when we found our own personal connections to Second Life, realizing its potential in our own lives and the lives of others. Whether it’s the social aspect, the content creation possibilities, or unique business and commerce opportunities, we’ve all got a tale of Second Life magic to share.

Preparations for the event have not been without problems, however.

Coming soon: the Best of Lionheart!

There’s a RL local free paper that has a “Best in [City]” issue every year.  People vote for various categories, and the winners get a trophy to display in their place, as well as all the bragging rights that go with it.

The Times has decided to something similar.  Presenting:

Starting June 21st, voting will begin for several categories.  Readers (that is, YOU!) get to vote on the best shops, clubs, and more throughout the 19-sim estate of Lionheart.

How will it work?

Starting on Monday, June 21st, you will see posts right here at your Lionheart Times calling for votes in various categories. You will vote anonymously by screened comment post. You don’t need any kind of account name or password or anything like that. You DO, however, have to vote for someone who lives and/or work in Lionheart. We’re counting on you to use the honor system here. So for example, if you vote for “Best Club”, you have to vote for a club that’s in Lionheart. You don’t have to be a Lionheart resident or even post your name. We will be watching IP addresses, however, and will accept only one vote per category per IP address.

Then starting July 1st, we will post the winners here in the Times, and present them with their own trophy to display proudly in their shop, club, or home!

YES you can vote for/nominate yourself. YES, get your friends from all over the grid to vote for you too. Just as long as you remember: one vote per category per IP address.
